Frequently Asked Questions

What will we do on the mission trip?
We will be assisting church planting missionaries (NAMB or IMB) in the establishment of a new church plant to become growing and multiplying. Team members will participate in various ministries such as evangelism, discipleship, leadership training, VBS, BYBC, block parties, prayer walking, music concerts, sports clinics, etc. Team members will be surveyed as to their gifts, abilities, experiences and passion in ministry. There are no age limits. Anyone from children to senior adults can help in some capacity.

How much will the trip cost and what does the cost cover?
The cost for the mission trip includes airfare, nice hotel, all meals except tourist day, ground transportation, insurance, evangelism -discipleship materials, and administration expenses. The cost also includes pre trip planning and preparation. The price of each trip will vary but expenses are kept to a bare minimum. SMP is a missions ministry that receives no support from mission boards.

What if we have less that the 25 minimum on our mission team?

If a church team has fewer than 20 participants they will be combined with another church team to reach a 25 member team. 25 is the minimum number needed to complete the church planting mission project. If a church has 40 or more on a team then we will do multiple projects the same week.

Can I use my Frequent Flyer Award to travel? Can I leave early or come late?

We suggest you use your frequent flyer award on another trip. In order to keep the cost of the trip expenses down for the team we figure our costs on a volume number of participants. Our trip team members leave together and return together. This simplifies the transporting of the team members to and from the hotel and the mission project as well.

With whom will we be working?
The SMP staff connects the mission team with NAMB or IMB church planting missionaries. These missionaries critically need church partners to assist them in their church planting projects and ongoing church partnership support. These partnerships can make a tremendous difference in the success and effectiveness of the church plant. At the end of the project the church partners will be encouraged to prayerfully consider a two or three year partnership for ongoing projects and support. These partnerships are encouraged but not required.

Isn't the cost of the trip expensive?
The expenses for each trip are kept to a bare bones minimum. The question to ask is, "Does the Lord want me to go on the trip?" If the Lord is calling you to serve, He will provide the resources and the time to go on the trip. Each trip is a ministry of SMP. "The Laborer is worthy of his hire."

What will be the results of the mission trip experience?
At the end of the project souls will be saved, lives changed, leaders developed, and new churches will be established. In many projects the mission can lead to a church planting movement. Over 70% of SBC missionaries have been called to full time missionary service as a result of a short term mission trip. Many team members return from these mission trips and have been radically changed and called to a deeper level of mission commitment. Churches are strengthened and Christians experience a new level of commitment to Christ and service for the Lord. Many have had a life changing commitment as a result of these mission trip experiences.
